Video: Drugs Hidden Inside a Ball Retrieved by State Revenue Committee

The State Revenue Committee’s Department for Combating Smuggling continues its efforts against the illegal transportation of drugs and narcotic substances across the borders of the Republic of Armenia.

Recently, employees from the anti-smuggling department, in collaboration with the Western customs office, conducted an inspection at the exchange center of Haypost LLC, where they performed a customs inspection on an international postal shipment imported from France. As a result, they discovered 780 tablets of ‘Subutex’ containing the narcotic substance ‘buprenorphine’ hidden inside a ball, along with 1.69 grams of damaged pills.

In connection with the smuggling case, the operational intelligence unit of the Department for Combating Smuggling and the National Security Service’s Department for Economic Security and Anti-Corruption carried out urgent operational-intelligence measures. It was found that the mentioned shipment was intended for a citizen of Armenia, A. E.

Within the framework of the operational-intelligence measures, in the village of Balakhovit in the Abovyan community of the Kotayk region, after receiving a similar postal shipment containing another substance instead of the ‘buprenorphine’ pills from the Haypost postal office, a previously convicted citizen of Armenia was arrested. Following the arrest and personal search, the individual was transferred to the Economic Crimes and Smuggling Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, where, within the framework of the initiated criminal proceedings, he was arrested.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Investigative Committee under Article 399 of the RA Criminal Code, and an investigation is underway.
