Xi Jinping Warned Biden
During the recent summit in San Francisco between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden, Xi openly stated that Beijing aims to reunify Taiwan with mainland China, although a specific timeline for this action has yet to be determined. This information comes from three current and former U.S. officials, as reported by NBC News.
According to the officials, during a group meeting attended by about a dozen American and Chinese officials, Xi told Biden that China's priority is to unite Taiwan peacefully rather than through force. It has been reported that the Chinese leader also addressed U.S. military authorities' public forecasts, which suggest that China plans to reunify Taiwan by 2025 or 2027. Xi informed Biden that those predictions are incorrect, as he has not set a timeframe.
Chinese officials also requested that prior to the summit, Biden make a public statement affirming that the U.S. supports China's goal of peaceful reunification with Taiwan and does not endorse Taiwan's independence. The White House rejected the Chinese request.
It is also noted that the White House declined to comment on this information.
