Shadow Governance in Gyumri: CP Stops Collaboration with Balasanyan Alliance
The Civil Contract party has decided to terminate its coalition cooperation with the Balasanyan Alliance. This was announced by the spokesperson for the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nazeli Baghdasaryan.
"The Deputy Mayors, Arthur Papikyan and Vahagn Mkrtchyan, will submit their resignation applications. The reason for this decision is that Gyumri is not being governed in accordance with the procedures established by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, and shadow governance is taking place in the city. This undermines both the functionality of the Gyumri City Hall and the work of the representatives of the Civil Contract in the executive branch of the City Hall," the statement said.
The Civil Contract faction of the Gyumri City Council will hold a press conference on December 11 at 13:00 to present the current situation and outline the faction's future actions.
It is noteworthy that the Mayor of Gyumri is from the Balasanyan Alliance, while the two deputy mayors belong to the Civil Contract. To obtain the mayoral position, the Civil Contract will need votes from opposition factions.
