US Working to Transfer Control of Gaza Strip to Palestine: Politico
Representatives of the Biden administration have been working since October on a multi-phase plan to transfer control of the Gaza Strip to Palestinian authorities following the conclusion of the war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement. This is reported by Politico, citing two officials.
The sources noted that the State Department, White House, and other agencies have been discussing Gaza's future for several weeks. The overarching concept involves the "multi-phase reconstruction of Gaza following the end of heavy fighting." According to officials, "international forces will be needed to stabilize the situation in the region as quickly as possible, while in the long term, control will be transferred to an updated Palestinian Authority."
The newspaper's sources describe this solution as incomplete, yet they consider it viable and the best proposal for governing the Gaza Strip. At the same time, it is noted that such a plan could "put the US at odds with the Israeli government," as Israel has previously spoken against the acceptability of this scenario. According to Politico's sources, US plans are currently in the early stages of development, and their implementation depends on several "unpredictable variables."
