VIDEO: Penalty for Driving Without Insurance to Be Reduced Under New Bill
The Armenian Parliament is proposing a new incentive for citizens without compulsory insurance (APPA) contracts. Edward Aghajanyan, a lawmaker from the Civil Contract party, presented the bill titled 'Amendments to the Administrative Offenses Code of Armenia' during a session of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security.
Currently, Armenian citizens face a fine of 100,000 drams for not having an APPA contract. "According to the proposed provision, if a citizen signs an insurance contract and presents credible evidence to the police within 24 hours of being recorded for lacking insurance, they will be able to pay a reduced fine of 25,000 drams instead of 100,000," the lawmaker stated.
The issue was discussed with partners from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and several technical details are still to be addressed. Clarifications are needed to potentially establish a database within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, so that drivers do not have to go to the police and submit the relevant documents.
It should be noted that the bill received a positive conclusion from the committee and will be discussed in a plenary session of the parliament.
