Buffer Zone to Be Established after Military Operations in Gaza Strip: Times of Israel

The Israeli authorities have confirmed that after the completion of military operations in the Gaza Strip, they plan to establish a buffer zone for security reasons, reports The Times of Israel.

"For security assurance, the defense ministry is discussing the creation of a buffer zone along the border with Gaza, to prevent the Hamas group from concentrating forces near the border and launching unexpected operations against Israel again," an anonymous representative of the Israeli authorities told the publication.

"This is a security measure, not a political step. We do not intend to remain on the other side of the border, in Gaza," the statement added.
