Hamas Will Have to Lay Down Arms, Says Berbok

In the backdrop of resumed fighting, Berbok has once again called for an extension of the humanitarian ceasefire, stating that Hamas must lay down its arms for a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on the creation of two states.

“Israel's security is only possible if the Palestinians also have prospects for the future,” Berbok said. However, to implement the two-state solution, it is crucial to ensure that Hamas cannot regroup and pose an existential threat to Israel, the minister added.

“Of course, this will also mean that Hamas must lay down its arms,” he emphasized.

Earlier, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the resumption of military operations. In a statement, the IDF accused Hamas of violating the conditions of a “tactical pause” in combat and firing rockets into Israeli territory.
