Rare Black Vulture Transferred to Rehabilitation Center
The Environmental and Mining Inspection Body received a report about a malnourished predatory bird spotted in the Martuni settlement of the Gegharkunik region, according to the Republic of Armenia's Environmental and Mining Inspection Body.
Inspectors from the Gegharkunik division identified the bird as a rare species of black vulture (Latin: Aegypius monachus), which is included in the Red Book of Armenia and the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List. The bird was immediately transferred to a rehabilitation center for animals and birds located in Yerevan.
Upon external examination of the predatory bird, no injuries were found. Laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment are currently being conducted.
