Turkey Appeals to IAEA Demanding Cessation of Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant Operations
Turkey has appealed to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), requesting the cessation of operations at the Metsamor nuclear power plant, located 16 km from the Turkish-Armenian border and situated within a seismic zone, Turkish media reports.
IAEA and European Union officials have confirmed that the safety conditions of the power plant allegedly do not meet current technical standards, and "efforts are being made to implement safety measures."
