Iran's Foreign Ministry Comments on the Visit of Armenia's National Security Council Secretary
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani provided information during a press conference regarding the visit of Armenia's National Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan to Iran. He stated, “The visit of the Armenian NSC Secretary to Iran is within the framework of discussions and negotiations about bilateral relations and developments in the Caucasus, and it is also connected to recent developments in the Caucasus. During the negotiations between the Armenian official and the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, the Armenian official detailed recent developments in the region and relations with Azerbaijan. The issues concerning military movements in the region were also discussed. Iran has presented its stance on developments in the Caucasus, emphasizing the importance of establishing peace, stability, and secure security in the region, especially between Armenia and Azerbaijan by utilizing regional and neighboring opportunities,” said Nasser Kanaani.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry's spokesperson noted that today a meeting is expected between the Armenian NSC Secretary and the Iranian Foreign Minister. According to Kanaani, dialogues are ongoing in this context as developments in the Caucasus are significant for Iran, and peace and stability in the Caucasus are key for the entire region.
Referring to President Erdogan's statement regarding the “Zangezur Corridor,” Kanaani emphasized, “We support the development of communication routes that ensure the interests of all countries in the region. However, at the same time, we are against changing international borders and geopolitical alterations. In this regard, we have clearly stated our position. We are confident that the issue needs to be resolved through dialogue,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson added.
