We Have No Expectations from the European Union That Has Made Us Wait for 60 Years, Says Erdoğan
Turkey has no expectations from the European Union regarding the possibility of joining the bloc. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during a speech at the opening of the new parliamentary session.
“We have no expectations from the European Union that has made us wait for 60 years. If they abandon their unfair treatment, especially concerning visa issuance, then they will correct their mistakes. Otherwise, they will lose the right to expect something from us,” he emphasized.
According to Erdoğan, Turkey “can, if necessary, convert the Copenhagen criteria (the criteria for countries wishing to join the EU) into Ankara's criteria and continue on its own path.”
