Iran Urges Turkey to Withdraw Troops from Syria

Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has called on Turkey to withdraw its troops from Syria, according to TACC.

He suggested that Turkish armed forces leave Syrian territory and return to their border regions in accordance with a timeline. “We believe that the presence of foreign state forces in Syria does not contribute to stability and security in the country,” he stated.

“We fully understand Turkey's concerns regarding border security with Syria; however, we believe that military presence in Syria is not a solution,” the Iranian foreign minister added.

He further noted that Iran considers quadrilateral format meetings (Russia, Syria, Turkey, and Iran) as the most suitable diplomatic avenue for coordinating and establishing security along the Syria-Turkey common border.
