What Are Pashinyan's Mother-in-Law and Son-in-Law Afraid of in Terms of Accountability

The Corruption Prevention Commission (CPC) appears to be hesitant to take accountability measures against close relatives of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, according to a report by "Hetq." There seems to be a sense that the CPC is either unwilling or compelled to review the declarations of Pashinyan's family members without rushing to take any action against them, simply stalling for time.

The situation began over a year ago, in April 2022, when "Hetq" reported that Pashinyan's son-in-law, member of the National Assembly from the "Civil Contract" faction Hratchya Hakobyan, and his mother, Kima Mkrtchyan (the Prime Minister's mother-in-law), did not disclose their shares in the companies "Dareskizb" and "Nika Publishing" in their declarations. Meanwhile, former ruling party parliamentarian and Pashinyan's friend Hayk Gevorgyan provided incomplete information regarding his involvement with the same companies.

The case concerning H. Gevorgyan, who served as a parliamentary member from 2019 to 2021, can be considered closed. In December 2022, the CPC subjected him to administrative penalties, imposing a fine of 200,000 drams. Gevorgyan acknowledged his negligence in presenting inaccurate and incomplete data. The CPC viewed this as a mitigating circumstance and applied the minimum fine threshold of 200,000 drams.
