EU Will Not Include Ban on Russian Gas Pipeline Imports in New Sanctions Package: Politico

The European Union is likely not to include a ban on the import of Russian gas via pipelines in its 11th sanctions package against Russia, reports Politico citing sources.

An anonymous diplomat told Politico that countries still dependent on Russian gas supplies are opposing the decision to prohibit imports. He also added that work on the 11th sanctions package is nearly complete, and it is unlikely that the ban will be included.

While the idea of a comprehensive ban does not find support in Brussels, according to the publication, the topic will still be discussed at the upcoming G7 summit.
