Russian and Belarusian Weightlifters Excluded from Final List for European Championship in Yerevan
The European Weightlifting Federation has announced that Russian and Belarusian weightlifters are not included in the final list of participants for the European Championships to be held in Yerevan from April 15 to 23.
“Athletes from Russia and Belarus are not included in the final lists,” said a representative of the EWF, as reported by ТАСС. This information is provided by sport-express.ru.
The preliminary list for the 2023 European Championships included 38 Russian and 27 Belarusian weightlifters (both men and women), including alternates.
The European Championships in Yerevan in April will be one of the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Games to be held in Paris in 2024. If the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) allows Russians to participate in Asian competitions, they will theoretically have the opportunity to compete in the Asian Championships, which will take place in South Korea from May 3 to 13 and is also part of the qualification events for the 2024 Olympic Games.
