Why Armenia Did Not Assume the Position of Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO: Pashinyan Explains

We are willing to assume the position of Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO if it does not send the wrong message to our people, and if it means adding another factor for the security of the Republic of Armenia. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated this at a press conference today.

“If it does not mean that, we do not see the point in taking such a step, at least from the logic of being honest with our people. You all witness how long and consistently we have worked and continue to work with the CSTO. We have offered our principles, which, by the way, is not about the Republic of Armenia, but rather whether the CSTO operates in Armenian territory, whether it exists or not. We want and are ready to confront this issue,” stated Pashinyan.

According to the head of government, it is not Armenia that is leaving the CSTO, but rather the CSTO that is leaving Armenia, which he finds concerning.
