Xi Jinping Re-elected as President of China
Xi Jinping has been re-elected as President of China during the first session of the 14th National People's Congress in the capital city of China. The decision was unanimously accepted by the lawmakers.
Xi Jinping has also been re-elected as Chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China. He will serve for a third consecutive term as the head of state, a possibility enabled by amendments made to China's constitution in 2018, which removed the provision that limited the presidency to two five-year terms.
The constitution now also includes the provision "Xi Jinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era," along with the names of Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping. Han Zheng, currently the First Vice Premier of the State Council of China, has been elected as Vice President of the People’s Republic of China.
