David Babayan: 'The Issue of Russian Peacekeepers Should Not Be Doubted'
In the event of a potential international fact-finding mission to Artsakh, there are numerous questions that need to be addressed, including aligning with the Russian peacekeeping mission. One thing must be understood very well: currently, the issue of Russian peacekeepers' activities cannot be brought into question. David Babayan, the representative of the Artsakh president for special assignments, stated this in an interview with "Factinfo".
“In my personal opinion and the deep conviction of the overwhelming majority of the people of Artsakh, if today the Russian peacekeepers were not here, then Artsakh would cease to exist. Any attempts to remove the Russian peacekeepers are dangerous and misguided. There is no desire to replace them here in Artsakh. It is their presence that helps maintain stability here as much as possible,” said Babayan.
According to Babayan, various countries need to exert political pressure on Azerbaijan to ensure it complies with the international court's decision and ends the blockade of Artsakh.
“Toyo Klaar says that it is true that everything entering Artsakh should be inspected to prevent weapons and ammunition from being transported. What kind of statement was that? What weapons could be in question? Why are the other issues not being raised?” Babayan pointed out, emphasizing that even if an international fact-finding mission is sent to Artsakh, it should not be done for geopolitical purposes and should not conflict with the Russian peacekeeping contingent.
