Protests Erupt in Iran Over Poisoning of Schoolgirls

Residents in Tehran and several other cities in Iran have taken to the streets in protest over a series of poisonings involving schoolgirls caused by an unidentified toxic substance, according to Reuters.

Reports indicate that the girls have been experiencing symptoms such as nausea and headaches. Several hundred victims have already been reported, with poisoning incidents recorded in 30 schools across 10 out of Iran's 31 provinces.

Earlier, the EU widened personal sanctions against individuals and organizations in Iran involved in suppressing protests in the country. The sanctions list has been expanded to include more than 30 individuals, including the Iranian ministers of culture and education, as well as two organizations linked to Iran's security forces.

Included in the sanctions list is Iran's Minister of Culture, Mohammad Esmaili, who has been involved in threats against artists who do not support the authorities' policies. The list also includes the Minister of Education, Yusef Nouri, who has been accused of abuses against students.
