One Year Since the Start of the Russia-Ukraine War: Summary Data

Exactly one year ago, on the early morning of February 24, Russia began a military assault on Ukraine. With this move, Moscow posed a serious challenge to the world order established since 1991.

On February 22, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the recognition of the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk. Two days later, on February 24, the Russian Federation commenced military intervention in Ukraine. Putin officially referred to it as a "special military operation."

Russia's tactical defeats continued in subsequent phases. However, the Russian Federation announced the annexation of four Ukrainian regions: Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia. Yet, there is no precise map of the annexed territories, as the war continues with varying intensity.
