Changes in Moldova's Government are Cosmetic in Nature, Says Zakharova

Moldova's course towards Russia is unlikely to change following the formation of the new government, despite Moscow's openness to cooperation with Chisinau. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. The information was reported by regnum.ru.

According to her, the changes in the composition of Moldova's government are cosmetic in nature, as 11 out of its 15 members have retained their positions.

“For this reason, unfortunately, Chisinau's course towards Russia is unlikely to change,” Zakharova said. She noted that the process of forming a new government in Moldova has been accompanied by an increase in anti-Russian rhetoric.

The Foreign Ministry representative added that Russia, for its part, remains open to the development of pragmatic and constructive cooperation for the benefit of the citizens of both countries. It should be noted that on February 16, Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed a decree appointing the government led by Prime Minister Dorin Recean. In the new cabinet, most of the previous ministers, led by Natalia Gavrilita, have retained their positions. The post of Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization has been abolished, and the Ministry of Energy has been created.
