Surenyants Discusses Volodin's Statement on Losing the Country
Political scientist Suren Surenyants shared his insights on his Facebook page regarding Volodin’s statements. He noted, “The main target of Volodin’s statement is not Armenia or Azerbaijan, but primarily the Western activity in the region, which, as characterized by the US State Department, is aimed against Russian-Iranian cooperation. Moscow defines a 'red line' in the context of global confrontation between Russia and the West, sending tough messages not only to Yerevan and Baku but also signaling a similar hardness, albeit in more 'softened' terms, in statements from US or EU officials.”
It is noteworthy that on Monday, Vyacheslav Volodin, the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, warned the European structures, particularly the European Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, against attempts to engage in the resolution of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh during a meeting with the head of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, Sagiba Gafarova. This was reported by interfax.ru.
“Let’s start by stating that there is a decision at the level of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the Russian Federation. We will follow that, and we will do everything on our end to ensure those arrangements are upheld. And those who make statements directed at European structures may simply lose the country,” the State Duma's official website quoted Volodin.
