Very Difficult Situation for Armenians in Aleppo
Armenians in Syria who have become homeless following the earthquake are still hesitant to return to their homes and continue to take refuge in local Armenian centers, stated Ruben Gevorgyan, director of the "Radio Yeraz" station, to 24News.
“There is a created commission that evaluates the issues based on its studies, and according to that, it is decided what is necessary to ensure that priority assistance is provided. The situation is very difficult for the Armenian community,” he noted.
According to Ruben Gevorgyan, there are currently no reports of potential new casualties among the Armenians: “Four injured individuals are in critical condition. If there are minor issues, we are not informed. People gather and discuss everything; this is the situation.”
Gevorgyan mentioned that even before the earthquake, Syria was facing shortages of medicine, food for children, and milk due to sanctions. “The situation is not yet alarming; something is still being provided. Many countries have sent their assistance, including Armenia. It is still possible to secure medicine, resolve other issues, but in these conditions, everything is more expensive, and it is quite difficult. Today, there may be serious problems related to dairy products for children under one year old. Secondly, medicine is needed for chronic diseases. Special medicines are required for hypertension. We are reaching out to importers regarding blood pressure and diabetes management tools,” said the director of "Radio Yeraz."
