As of now, the number of Armenians killed due to the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey stands at five. This was stated by Hovhannes Aleksanyan, head of the strategies development department of the Office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs, in an interview with NEWS.am.
“We have information that there is an Armenian family trapped under the rubble in Turkey's Hatay province,” Aleksanyan noted.
Earlier, it was reported that Zilan Tigris, an Armenian singer living in Diyarbakir (Tigranakert), and her husband are also trapped under the rubble.
It is worth mentioning that in the city of Malatya, Turkey, an Armenian couple was killed in the earthquake, and the day after the incident, their child passed away in the hospital. The other child is currently hospitalized, and their condition is stable.
In Syria, Armenians Myrna Tenkecjian and her son Alper Tenkecjian were also killed. The daughter and father are in the hospital, with the daughter's leg having been amputated.
