Russian Rescuers Depart for Turkey and Syria, Soldiers Already Assisting Syrians
The Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has also instructed the commander of the troop grouping in Syria to assist in the elimination of the consequences of the earthquake. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Shoigu spoke by phone with his Turkish counterpart Hulusi Akar and offered assistance, including medical aid for the victims. Akar thanked Shoigu and promised to prepare specific proposals in the near future.
It is worth noting that an earthquake occurred in Turkey's Kahramanmaras province at 05:17 in the morning, resulting in devastation in several cities. Two more powerful earthquakes were registered at 14:24 and 14:36 Yerevan time. According to the latest data, 1,541 people have died and more than 9,000 have been injured.
In several regions of Syria, there have also been incidents of destruction, which have claimed around 430 lives and injured 1,315 people. The tremors were also felt in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.
