Staff of Azerbaijan's Embassy Evacuated from Tehran and Sent to Baku
An aircraft carrying evacuated staff from Azerbaijan's embassy in Iran, along with their families, landed in Baku on Sunday evening. This was reported by Interfax.
The embassy staff were evacuated from Iran via a special flight of Azerbaijan Airlines, according to Azerbaijani media.
The body of the chief of the embassy's security service, Orkhan Askerov, who was killed in a terrorist attack on the diplomatic mission, was also sent back to Baku.
In addition, a wounded guard from the embassy has also flown to the Azerbaijani capital.
Azerbaijan's Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov commented to reporters on the armed attack against the embassy, stating, "According to the Vienna Convention, the country where the embassy is located is responsible for security. Therefore, Iran is responsible for the terrorism and its severe consequences."
He noted that the Azerbaijani embassy has ceased operations, but the consulate in Tabriz continues to function.
