Armenia vs. Azerbaijan: Hearings Held at The Hague
The International Court of Justice held hearings today regarding the legal proceedings between Armenia and Azerbaijan. This was reported by Armenia's representative on international legal matters.
Official Yerevan demands that the court recognize Azerbaijan's discriminatory treatment towards Armenia and the Armenian people and provide compensation for the damages caused.
The representative on international legal matters requested the implementation of interim measures against Azerbaijan before the court issues its ruling on the 'Armenia v. Azerbaijan' case. Yeghishe Kirakosyan stated in his speech that the UN International Court of Justice is the last hope for the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.
'If the court does not take immediate measures, the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh will face an impossible choice: to leave their ancestral homes or stay and face famine. The President of Azerbaijan has demanded that the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh leave. The way is open for all those who do not wish to become citizens there,' said Yeghishe Kirakosyan.
Today’s court hearings were part of Armenia’s claim filed against Azerbaijan in 2020, accusing Baku of violating several international documents and agreements aimed at preventing racial discrimination.
