Resolution Condemning the Blockade of Artsakh Introduced in the US Congress
A resolution condemning the blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan has been introduced in the US House of Representatives. This was reported by the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA).
It is noted that the bipartisan resolution is initiated by Representatives Frank Pallone, Brad Sherman, Gus Bilirakis, Adam Schiff, and David Valadao. The resolution calls for the condemnation of Azerbaijan's blockade of the Lachin corridor.
The authors of the document also urge the US government and the international community to address international courts, the European Court of Human Rights, or other relevant international tribunals to investigate all war crimes committed by Azerbaijani forces.
The resolution calls for the US government to work operationally with international partners, including the authorities of Artsakh, regarding the deployment of international observers to the Lachin corridor and Artsakh to explore the possibilities of more effective and sustainable guarantees for security and peaceful development.
The authors call on the US President to immediately cease any new, ongoing, or prospective military assistance or aid to Azerbaijan in the security sector, as well as to fully implement Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act. Additionally, the resolution supports the imposition of US sanctions against Azerbaijani officials responsible for the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and other well-documented human rights violations against Armenians in the region, such as attacks on civilian infrastructure and the destruction of historical, cultural, and religious monuments of great significance to Armenians.
The resolution also supports the implementation of US programs to provide permanent humanitarian and development assistance to Armenians affected by Azerbaijani aggression in Nagorno-Karabakh, including the possible opening of a USAID office in Artsakh.
It is worth noting that on the morning of December 12, at 10:30, the connection between the villages of Lisagor, Great Shen, Old Shen, and Yeghdzahogh in the Shushi region and the capital Stepanakert was interrupted. A group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothing again closed the Stepanakert-Goris highway under the pretext of environmental reasons.
