Mining Operations in Artsakh to Be Temporarily Halted: Statement
The government of the Republic of Artsakh once again reaffirms that mining activities in Artsakh are conducted according to the highest international standards, which align with regulations established by sector legislation. This is stated in a declaration released by the Artsakh government.
"Considering the unhealthy environment created by the so-called 'eco-activists' of the neighboring country and their attempts to mislead the international community, a decision has been made to appeal to international organizations to conduct an international ecological assessment related to the activities of 'Base Metals' company. In coordination with the company's management, it has been decided to temporarily suspend the operations of the company's mine until the completion of the assessment.
The government of the Republic of Artsakh has appealed to the relevant bodies of the United Nations and other international specialized organizations to organize the assessment in a timely manner. The government of the Republic of Artsakh has always supported the preservation of the best international standards in the mining sector and is convinced that international ecological standards should be applicable to all mining companies in the region," the statement reads.
