‘North-South’ May Pass Through Azerbaijan and Iran Instead of Armenia if Yerevan Doesn’t Resolve Transportation Blockade Issues – Ovechuk

‘North-South’ international transportation corridor’s western route may go through Azerbaijan and Iran instead of Armenia if the country fails to resolve transportation blockade issues. This was stated by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Ovechuk during the ‘Made in Russia 2022’ export forum, which oversees international cooperation.

The official emphasized that establishing transportation links between Azerbaijan’s western regions and Nakhchivan through the territories of Armenia or Iran is crucial for creating a ‘crossroad’ for the main international transportation corridors of ‘North-South’ and ‘East-West’.

According to Ovechuk, the implementation of these transportation projects would allow the economies of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia to receive an ‘additional rental income’ due to their geographical advantages in Eurasia.
