Armenian Side Submitted Request for EU Observers Deployment a Month Ago: Toivo Klaar
The Armenian side submitted an official request for the deployment of EU observers to Brussels a month ago. Toivo Klaar, the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, stated this in an interview with the Azerbaijani Turan news agency.
"EU observers are being deployed in accordance with a request sent by the Armenian authorities to EU High Representative Josep Borrell on September 22," Klaar said. He added that on October 6, the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, France, and the European Council discussed the potential deployment and actions on the Azerbaijani side.
"Azerbaijan's President Aliyev made it clear that Baku is willing to cooperate with this mission to the extent that it relates to them. We expect the Azerbaijani side to engage positively," the EU Special Representative said, expressing hope that the mission would serve to strengthen trust between the parties.
He noted that the mission will be for a period of two months, and there is no discussion about extending the deadline.
