Ukraine Aims to Completely Abandon Natural Gas for Heating
In the upcoming heating season, Ukraine plans to fully abandon the use of natural gas for heating, with a positive example demonstrated by the city of Zhytomyr. According to Armenpress, citing ukrinform, this was stated by Yurii Vitrenko, head of the management board of Naftogaz Ukraine.
“The experience of Zhytomyr shows that in many cases it is possible to switch from natural gas to other heating sources, such as biomass or waste. Additionally, we are studying this positive experience. We are working with the city of Zhytomyr on three projects that allow for the generation of heat and electricity from biomass. In this case, it’s biofuel and RDF (refuse-derived fuel, which consists essentially of household waste),” Vitrenko noted. “This is economically and ecologically advantageous,” he added.
Vitrenko also mentioned that Ukraine is now 90 percent prepared for the heating season, with 13.9 billion cubic meters of gas accumulated in underground storage facilities.
