Russia Calls for Urgent UN Security Council Meeting Following Nord Stream Incidents
Following the recent acts of sabotage against the Nord Stream gas pipelines, Russia has requested an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council. This information was shared by Dmitry Polyansky, the first deputy permanent representative of Russia to the global organization.
“Russia has called for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council. We expect it to take place tomorrow,” Polyansky wrote on his Telegram channel.
Earlier, the official spokesperson of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, stated that Russia intends to convene an official session of the Security Council due to provocations related to the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines.
It was revealed yesterday that there was a sudden drop in pressure in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which had filled with technical gas. Later reports confirmed that a pressure drop was also recorded in two lines of the Nord Stream pipeline.
According to Nord Stream AG, the simultaneous ruptures of three lines of the two pipelines are unprecedented. It is possible that the emergency incident could have been caused by sabotage, and Swedish seismologists even recorded two explosions in the vicinity of the Nord Streams.
