Edmon Marukyan on the Phone Conversation between Pashinyan and Erdogan
The Armenian special envoy and leader of the 'Enlightened Armenia' party, Edmon Marukyan, commented on the phone conversation between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. On his Facebook page, Marukyan stated, 'The last direct communication between the leaders of Armenia and Turkey took place about 10 years ago. This is an extremely important step in the process of normalizing Armenian-Turkish relations.'
'We must understand that having closed borders and zero diplomatic relations with Turkey will not lead us anywhere—especially considering the realities of the recent war. It is crucial that dialogue continues and reaches a successful conclusion in the form of border openings and the establishment of diplomatic relations. Armenia continues to pursue proactive diplomacy.'
It is noteworthy that on July 11, Nikol Pashinyan had a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The Armenian Prime Minister congratulated Erdogan on the occasion of Kurban Bayram, while the Turkish President congratulated Pashinyan on the upcoming Vardavar, the Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ. The leaders emphasized the importance of the bilateral process to normalize relations between their countries, which will also contribute to strengthening peace and stability in the region. In this context, they expressed hope that the agreements reached during the meeting of their special representatives on July 1 will soon be implemented.
