Armenian Ambassador to Georgia to Be Recalled
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that the Armenian Ambassador to Georgia, Ruben Sadoyan, is set to be recalled, according to certain sources. Long-time diplomat Ashot Smbatyan, who served as the Armenian ambassador to Germany from 2015 to 2021, is expected to replace him.
It is worth recalling that R. Sadoyan was appointed as ambassador to Georgia in 2017, a designation that caused quite a stir at the time. Critics noted that sending a former member of parliament with no diplomatic experience as ambassador was justified by his business interests in Georgia, which allowed him to form close ties with the Georgian authorities. However, after the revolution, Sadoyan was one of the few who remained in his position for four years.
Yesterday, he did not respond to our calls and messages. We were informed that Smbatyan's agrément has already been sent to Georgia. The full article is available in today's issue of the newspaper.
