Statement from the Armenia Faction
Today, the National Assembly is discussing, in an extraordinary session, the issue of candidates for judges of the Supreme Court proposed by the High Judicial Council. The judges have been nominated by the same state structure whose credibility has been undermined, and a member who has compromised its integrity still holds leadership positions; he has not been removed and has not yet faced criminal prosecution.
This statement was released by the Armenia faction of the National Assembly.
"The nomination of candidates tasked with ensuring uniform practice in courts by such a composition of the High Judicial Council, with a member-acting president of that kind, already showcases the degradation of such an important legal process. Considering that since the publication of the notorious recording and the subsequent establishment of irreparable damaging evaluations regarding the law enforcement system and the same High Judicial Council, Gagik Jhangiryan continues to serve in his role and represents the structure that has nominated the candidates for judges, and regardless of who will be elected, even the candidates who have genuinely administered justice in the relevant chambers of the Supreme Court will be subject to the legal principle of 'the fruit of a poisonous tree,'" the statement reads.
