Authorities in Negotiations with Yerevan Regarding Recognition of Artsakh's Independence: Artak Beglaryan
The authorities of Artsakh are engaged in negotiations with Yerevan regarding the recognition of independence, but there has been no progress yet, stated the Minister of State of the Republic of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“Negotiations are ongoing with Armenia, and communications are being held about the recognition of the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh, but so far there is no progress in this regard,” said Beglaryan.
He noted that it can be argued that, in essence, Armenia has recognized Nagorno-Karabakh since there are horizontal ties maintained between the republics — “as equals with equals.”
Beglaryan pointed out that a comprehensive resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue seems impossible in the foreseeable future, as there are serious contradictions between the positions of Artsakh and Azerbaijan, which are diametrically opposed.
He emphasized that the main difference is that for Azerbaijan, this is a matter of “prestige, ambitions,” while for the residents of Karabakh, it is “a matter of life and death, their existence and historical justice.”
