Azerbaijan Will Not Concede Any Position or Height, Expert Says There's Only One Way to Survive
The government in Baku sees no desire or reason to concede anything to Armenia, not only because it contradicts Azerbaijan and Turkey's national interests, but also simply because Azerbaijan has realized that the de facto pro-Turkish government of Armenia is willing to concede and refrain from using force to stop the occupation of Armenian territories, regardless of their size and location. Turkish expert Varuzhan Geghamyan wrote this on his Facebook page.
“Azerbaijan will not concede any position, height, road, field, or village that it has captured. Nothing that has been conquered is subject to negotiation, regardless of the method of conquest. And regardless of the location—whether in Artsakh or Syunik. The negotiations will also be fruitless. At best, they can halt the current momentum but will never reclaim any lost territory from their hands. Azerbaijan does not concede simply through negotiations,” he stated.
Moreover, Baku does not see any desire or reason to make concessions to Armenia not only because it contrasts with the national interests of Azerbaijan and Turkey but also because Azerbaijan is convinced that Armenia's de facto pro-Turkish leadership is ready to concede and refrain from using force to stop the occupation of Armenian territories, regardless of their size and location.
Let’s remember the surrender of the eastern positions in Syunik in December 2020, followed by the gradual occupation of Syunik and Gegharkunik starting from May. After these events, the Armenian side only held meetings and did not repel Azerbaijan’s forces with arms; instead, they absurdly proposed a 'mirror pullback of forces' through the mouth of a capitulator. This approach gives the green light to Baku, and we see its continuation today in Parukh and Khramort.
It can be confidently asserted that following this, Azerbaijan will launch new attacks on Syunik as well. The only way to salvage the situation is armed organized resistance on the battlefield and a change of negotiator on the diplomatic stage. The sole means to achieve both is to remove the pro-Turkish faction de facto governing Armenia and establish a national government. Armenia has no other chance for survival. No ally will save us; they will only do the most for themselves. No ally, especially if they see that we ourselves have renounced our own interests. This is the plain truth. It is also a plain truth that all national forces must take on the responsibility of addressing the real problems of the people by stepping out of their comfort zones,” he concluded.
