Russia Refuses to Negotiate with Japan
The Russian Foreign Ministry has announced that Russia is refusing to conduct negotiations with Japan regarding a peace treaty, as stated in a statement published on the Ministry's website.
“The Russian side currently does not intend to continue negotiations with Japan on a peace treaty, as it is impossible to discuss the signing of a fundamental document on bilateral relations with a state that adopts an openly unfriendly stance and seeks to harm our country's interests,” the text states.
In response to Japanese sanctions, Russia is halting visa-free travel for Japanese citizens to the southern Kurils.
