30th Anniversary of the Armenian Army
Today, Armenia celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, also known as the Armenian Army. Thirty years ago, the independent Republic of Armenia, along with the Republic of Artsakh, began the establishment of a national army, a process significantly influenced by the independence declaration of 1990.
The celebration was established by a law on "Holidays and Commemorative Days of the Republic of Armenia," signed by the President of Armenia on January 6, 2001. An amendment to the Constitution of Armenia was made on November 20, 2002, which designated January 28 as a non-working day.
The Day of the Armenian Army is celebrated on January 28, as it was on the same day in 1992 that the decision regarding the "Defense of the Republic of Armenia" was adopted.
