The Number of Births in Armenia Has Increased

According to the "Zhoghovurd" daily, the number of births in Armenia has increased in the first eight months of this year. Official data shared with "Zhoghovurd" indicates that the number of births from January to August 2020 was 22,858, whereas in the same period this year, it has risen to 23,440.

On the other hand, there has also been an increase in the number of stillbirths, rising from 289 last year to 321 this year. It is well known that the main causes of stillbirth in children are twofold: poor socio-economic conditions and a low level of healthcare.

The figures indicate that the number of families in Armenia unable to provide their pregnant women with calorie-rich nutrition has increased. It is widely recognized that if a pregnant woman’s daily diet is poor, it can negatively impact the child's growth.

Additionally, "Zhoghovurd" reported that the natural increase over the first eight months of this year is 2,325, compared to 3,616 in the same period last year, and 2,492 in 2019.
