Levon Aronian Defeats Azerbaijani Rival and Advances to Semifinals
Leading Armenian chess player Levon Aronian defeated Azerbaijani Shahriyar Mamedyarov in the online tournament "Chessable Masters" of the "Grand Chess Tour," reports Sputnik Armenia.
On the second day of the tournament, Aronian celebrated two victories, both with black pieces, along with one defeat. The fourth game, as per regulations, did not take place due to the Armenian chess player's early victory.
Aronian won against Mamedyarov with a score of 2.5:0.5. In the semifinals of the online chess tournament, Aronian will compete against Vietnamese Grandmaster Le Quang Liem, who has previously triumphed over France's Alireza Firouzja in two matches (3:1 and 2:0).
