Will Onik Gasparyan Be Arrested? ‘Joghourd’
The newspaper ‘Joghourd’ reports that a meeting took place yesterday at the central office of the ruling ‘Civil Contract’ party, where acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan met with the newly elected members of parliament. They decided to establish a commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the 44-day war, which will also include extra-parliamentary forces.
This decision and the announcement itself are noteworthy at this stage, as both previous and newly elected parliamentary forces have called for the establishment of a commission regarding the 44-day war. With this step, the government aims to get ahead of the opposition.
Moreover, on April 16 of this year, former Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan filed a proposal with the President of the National Assembly, the leaders of the parliamentary ruling and opposition factions, as well as the Chairman of the Defense Committee, to create an investigative commission to examine the circumstances of the 44-day war. However, it received no response.
Now it is the authorities making such proposals, which is not coincidental. ‘Joghourd’ learned that some ‘My Step’ members discussed yesterday that the work of this commission will focus on exposing Onik Gasparyan's actions, finding any negative aspects in his work, and placing the responsibility for shortcomings on him. The goal is to arrest Onik Gasparyan for the defeat in the war.
Additionally, it should be noted that at least six reports on state treason related to the war have been submitted to the Prosecutor General of Armenia, but no criminal cases have been initiated based on any of them.
