Aronian Defeats World Champion and Advances to Final

Grandmaster Levon Aronian defeated world champion Magnus Carlsen to advance to the final of the Goldmoney Asian Rapid 7th international tournament. According to Armenpress, on the second day of the semifinals, the chess players played four more games. Aronian celebrated two victories, while the other two games ended in draws. The Armenian grandmaster has made it to the tournament final.

The organizers of the Goldmoney Asian Rapid tournament include world champion Magnus Carlsen and leading woman player Hou Yifan. The tournament has a prize fund of $1.6 million.

Aronian continues to compete under the Armenian flag. Recently, he issued a statement addressing questions surrounding his personal life. It has been reported that Aronian is leaving Armenia and will join the U.S. national team.
