Monument to the Genocides of the Jewish and Armenian Peoples Defaced in Yerevan
In Yerevan's Circular Park, a monument dedicated to the genocides of the Jewish and Armenian peoples has been defaced. This was reported on Facebook by television commentator Artyom Yerkanian, who shared a photo of the vandalized monument. “No human being could have done this. There is no justification for such an act. I am at a loss for words. I try to console myself by believing that it was not an Armenian who did this, but rather an agent of a hostile state's security service. (By the way, law enforcement should also investigate this hypothesis). I express my condolences and solidarity to all my fellow citizens of Jewish ethnicity,” he stated.
Journalist Arshaluis Mghdesyan also commented on Facebook: “In Javakhk, my birthplace, there is a saying: you don't spit on the dead. In other words, you don’t insult the deceased. I understand our public outrage due to the use of Israeli drones in the war and its consequences, but what do millions of innocent Armenian and Jewish victims and their memory have to do with this? Or is our courage only limited to this, that we resort to vandalizing a monument in desperation? This is not a demonstration of bravery, but rather a manifestation of desperation. Instead of engaging in serious work, we are expressing our helplessness through hooliganism against the memory of the dead, both Armenian and Jewish. What is the municipality of Yerevan doing about this monument in this state, don’t you want to clean it? The police of the Republic of Armenia, you should respond to this first... as if this is not the first case.”
