The National Assembly Discusses Aram Vardevanyan's Candidacy for Deputy Speaker

The National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia is discussing the candidacy of Aram Vardevanyan, a member of the "Strong Armenia" faction, for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

The candidate's biography and professional activities were presented by Tigran Abrahamyan, the secretary of the "Strong Armenia" faction, during the first session of the ninth convocation of the National Assembly.

Aram Vardevanyan's candidacy was proposed by the "Strong Armenia" faction. The faction leader, Narek Karapetyan, stated on August 2 that the candidate's professional experience and expertise were taken into account during the selection process.

According to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia, the National Assembly has three vice presidents, one of whom must be elected from among the deputies representing the opposition factions. The Deputy Speaker is elected by secret ballot with the majority of votes from the total number of deputies.

The ninth convocation of the National Assembly consists of 105 deputies, therefore at least 53 votes in favor are required for Vardevanyan's election.

Aram Vardevanyan was born on November 1, 1989, in Yerevan. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at the Armenian-Russian University and holds a PhD in Law. Throughout his professional career, he has worked in the legal and academic fields. In 2016, he served as an assistant to the Prime Minister of Armenia, coordinating matters related to human rights, the judicial system, penitentiary institutions, and related fields.

Vardevanyan was also a deputy in the eighth convocation of the National Assembly. His parliamentary powers ceased on December 2, 2022. He was the official representative of the "Armenia" alliance during the 2021 parliamentary elections, and he was elected as a deputy based on the list of the "Strong Armenia" alliance as a result of the 2026 elections.

It is noteworthy that representatives of the ruling "Civil Contract" faction, Vahagn Aleksanyan and Haik Konjoryan, have already been elected to the positions of Deputy Speakers of the National Assembly.
