Clashes Resume Between Police and Protesters in Lebanon
In the center of Tripoli, Lebanon, protesters gathered and set fire to the entrance gates of the municipal building while throwing stones at law enforcement officers. According to РИА Новости, hundreds of participants in the demonstration are hurling stones towards the municipality and attempting to throw back tear gas canisters used by the police to disperse the crowd.
It has been reported that emergency vehicles from the Red Cross and civil defense are present at the scene. Currently, the army is not involved in the law enforcement operations.
Recall that brutal clashes occurred the day before between protesters and police, with offenders throwing multiple grenades towards the security forces. Nine police officers were injured in the altercations, and more than 200 people have overall been reported injured. The protests have been ongoing for four days, with citizens demanding measures to improve living conditions and the lifting of the curfew imposed due to a new outbreak of the coronavirus.
