Man Who Attacked Russians Arrested in Istanbul
An Istanbul court has detained a man who attacked three Russian nationals on January 24. This was reported by a source in law enforcement to RIA Novosti.
The agency's interlocutor clarified that the individual has been charged with attempted murder and has been sent to prison.
On Sunday evening, Hasan Hussein Y., a man suffering from a mental disorder, attacked the tourists—two women and a man from Russia—with a knife. All three were hospitalized.
On the morning of January 26, a source from law enforcement told RIA Novosti, citing doctors, that one of the victims, who sustained seven wounds, is in serious condition, but there is a trend towards improvement.
Following the attack, the Russian embassy in Ankara urged tourists to maintain security measures, avoid interaction with “suspicious individuals,” and stay away from mentally unstable persons.
