Italian Ambassadors and German Chargé d'Affaires Summoned to Turkey's Foreign Ministry
Recently, the tension in Turkey-EU relations has escalated following a controversial incident that took place on November 22. This is reported by ermenihaber.am.
The ambassadors of the European Union and Italy, along with the German Chargé d'Affaires, have been summoned to the Foreign Ministry of Turkey, where a note of protest was submitted regarding the incident between the "Irini" mission and a Turkish ship. This was announced through a statement by Turkey's Foreign Ministry.
The statement indicated that the mission did not receive explicit permission from Turkey to conduct inspections on the Turkish ship "Roseline-A". In the note of protest directed at the ambassadors and the chargé d'affaires, Ankara asserted that the incident contravenes international law.
It is noteworthy that the EU-led "Irini" mission, aimed at preventing arms smuggling to Libya, had instructed the German frigate "Hamburg" on November 22 to stop the Turkish cargo vessel "Roseline-A", claiming it was illegally transporting weapons to Libya.
Located about 200 kilometers north of the city of Benghazi in eastern Libya, the head inspector of the Bundeswehr sought to inspect the Turkish ship. However, official Ankara protested at the last moment and did not allow the inspection to proceed. Following Ankara's refusal, German soldiers had to immediately cease the verification of the cargo. The "Roseline-A" has continued its journey towards Libya.
