Kataro Winery Remains Under Enemy Control

As a result of the Second Artsakh War, the Kataro winery located in the village of Togh in the Hadrut region has come under enemy control.

The president of the Union of Winemakers of Armenia, Avag Harutyunyan, told GastroVino that the Domaine Avetissyan "Kataro" winery no longer exists. The winery was established by the Avetisyan family. Edik Avetisyan, along with his three sons, launched the production of Kataro wine in 2002, with the first bottling taking place in 2010. The wine was named in honor of the Kataro monastery, built in the 17th century on the Dizap’ait mountain.

Domaine Avetissyan ("Kataro") had vineyards not far from the village of Togh. The wine was produced from the Khndoghni (100%) grape variety. For aging, they used barrels made of Artsakh oak.

“Kataro” was presented to wine lovers with wines such as Red "Kataro", Red "Kataro" Reserve, White "Kataro", and "Kataro" Rosé. “Kataro” Rosé is one of the unique wines in the Armenian market, made exclusively from the Khndoghni grape variety. It has a delicate aroma of forest fruits and floral and nectarine flavor notes. The wine was officially presented to Armenian wine enthusiasts in the summer of 2020.
